Well the end of last week was ace I went up and stayed with my friend Rob in the East Midlands despite problems with train tickets, due to my incompetence. Two days of ace riding fantastic hospitality and just genera goof fun, especially the pub quiz at Rob's local, just magical. Sadly no pictures at all as my Ricoh R6 has died and will go off for repair tomorrow which is really annoying, I start my commuting again tomorrow light nights should mean I'll be able to stretch it out quite easily with jaunts over Hampstead and Highgate whenever it's nice.   Read the rest of the entry...

Well that was an eventful afternoon, I got the bus out from Walthamstow to Ikea at Edmonton, which was really easy, after a quick tootle round to look at sofas which bore no resemblance to the IKEA website I thought I'd pick up a few bits and leave. So I managed to get my bits and leave with my insanity intact which to be honest I was pretty chuffed with, now to find the bus back to Walthamstow. After a quick look at the bus stand map I knew where I had to walk to so everything stowed in my courier bag and my shelf unit cross braces just peeking out the top I headed off, along the main road and over the top of the North Circular, I'd just managed to cross the bridge and was feeling a bit queasy from my high bridge vertigo paranoia thing, when I heard police sirens. Now police sirens in London are ten a penny so I blithely continued walking until a patrol car pulled up in front of me and demanded that I stopped. Now bless him Sergeant Wood realised he's made a bit of a boo boo when he got out of the car ...  Read the rest of the entry...

Annoyingly Cipo and Michael Ball appear to have fallen out and the rumours of Cipo racing with Tinkoff for La Primavera are unfounded, it would seem that the peloton will go back to being as dull as it has been until the next drugs scandal. Currently the most exciting thing in profesional cycling is the war between ASO, RCS and Unipublic against the UCI. I aways thought that Hein Verbruggen was a staid and often dull head of the UCI but he certainly seems more considered that Pat McQuaid the present incumbent, who appears to have the ability to fall out with everyone involved in the sport. We really need the thrill of the mid 90's Peloton, the hard racing and more importantly the characters, we used to Have Cipo, El Diablo, Virenque, Pantani, Tafi and Bugno, the closest we seem to have at the moment are Robbie McEwen and Ricardo Ricco, whose petulence is really quite fantastic, I really hope that he's going to go on and really shine. Still Rock Racing still have the coolest looking De Rosa's and strip even if Cipo has retired again. The peloton really needs to close ranks shut it's mouth and just get on with racing ...  Read the rest of the entry...

Well Wednesday night I worked late and then got the train up to stay with Phil, then yesterday morning I picked up my new cross bike. It's brilliant gears really are rather good and came into their element on a three and a half hour cross ride yesterday, churning the big ring round on muddy trails and windswept roads was ace. I was actually really shocked how well a mix of Shimano 105 and Tiagra drive train components work, as much as I hate to say it I can't see myself going back to Campagnolo when Shimano works so well. Despite the tribulations of satellite navigation we managed a three and a half hour ride on the North Downs today packing bikes into the car just as the hail storm started. Despite mud and cold winds I've really enjoyed lovely company and great riding, oh and if you read this Phil you do need Mavic Cosmic Carbonne's...   Read the rest of the entry...

Well I've finally moved the new place is great but I've got lots of things still to sort out and put away which is a pain in the proverbial. I'm completely shattered but at least only have a three day week to come although that is topped off with two days of hard riding. The new bed I bought as well is excellent I can't remember the last time I slept so well, a truly worthwhile investment worth every penny. I've not touched a bike for ages now and it's unlikely I will till I pick up my new Scott on Thursday, the weather is currently grim and I also don't know my way to work from the new place yet.  It's a bit further but I'd like to try and learn a sensible route in daylight so I'm not riding on silly busy roads. Still the weather has been pretty grim for the past week so whilst it's been horrid I've been thinking about how nice February was and how I can't wait for the longer nights and dryer weather to arrive   Read the rest of the entry...

Well moving has made me very busy but not too busy to avoid riding, Saturday saw a seven hour North Downs ride which was fun, Sunday wasn't quite so much fun as I had to buy a new bed and mattress, which has now left me really quite skint. Still Warren and Evans, seem like a fairly nice company and the beds are all made locally so that's a bonus as well, not cheap but at least made out of proper wood. Slightly more regular service  will no doubt  resume after I've moved.   Read the rest of the entry...
